Why Physicians Should Practice Medicine in Kentucky

Podcast

Kentucky native and family physician Kathy Nieder shares her enthusiasm for the Bluegrass State, and Louisville in particular.

Kentucky native and family physician Kathy Nieder, who is based in Louisville, likes a lot of things about being a physician in the Bluegrass State, but not everything.

On the one hand, she is thrilled that she’s "living in a city where the Kentucky Derby is staged every year," however, it can be challenging living in a "blue city that lives in a red state" when you’re on the left side of the political spectrum.

Nieder told us one of the best things about being a doctor in Kentucky is that physicians are very supportive of each other and their patients.

"Despite some rather heavy hitting competition between the healthcare systems in town … the physicians stay informed of what doctors are best in what subspecialties and send their patients to the best doctor, which is more important than the best system, if there can be such a thing," said Nieder. "We also have two excellent academic systems in the state with University of Louisville and University of Kentucky if we need to make an academic referral." In this podcast, Nieder shared with Physicians Practice what she likes and dislikes about living in Kentucky.
