Why Physicians Should Practice Medicine in Alaska

Podcast

Allergist/immunologist Melinda Rathkopf shares her perspective on practicing medicine in the state of Alaska.

Alaska stands out from the rest of the country as a great place to practice because medical practice consolidation seems to be occurring at a slower pace, Melinda Rathkopf, an allergist/immunologist based in Anchorage, told Physicians Practice.

"There's a trend I see the rest of the country going toward that Alaska has not yet - and

we really kind of hope we don't see it - is the loss of the small-physician practices and solo practices," said Rathkopf. "I talk to providers in other states, and more and more physicians
are going into hospital-based practices or larger groups because they just feel the stresses are so difficult with small practice."
