As we head into the long Memorial Day weekend, which of course marks the unofficials start to the summer, many of us surely have vacations on the brain. But, especially for practice administrators who have their hands in every part of running the practice, it may seem impossible to even consider taking a break.
In April's The Administrator's Desk column, we covered this problem, and what you need to do get away. Here are a couple pieces of guidance from that article:
First, plan ahead. OK, so it's already almost June, but now's the time to catch up and stay current on your workload (so you're not bogged down as you're heading out of the office). Also, train an interim leader to handle operations - and make sure everyone else in the office knows who's in charge in your absence.
Finally, leave your work at work (if you can.): "To guarantee a peaceful vacation, you might consider leaving your laptop and cell phone at home."
For more, read the column here, and let us know if you're planning to get away this summer.
