I started an urgent care clinic. The insurance companies will not recognize us even though I have gone through the expense to make the facility equal to a small ER. How do I get acceptance from the insurance companies?

Question: I started an urgent care clinic. The insurance companies will not recognize us even though I have gone through the expense to make the facility equal to a small ER. How do I get acceptance from the insurance companies?

Answer: Ask the insurance companies to come visit you. If they see what you have done, there may be some room for special treatment.

It may take a few phone calls but hopefully you can get a rep to visit.

In addition, I would suggest developing an analysis of the cost of your services compared to an ER. Show them the cost savings. Ask to meet with each of the medical directors of your major carriers, and walk them through your analysis. In other words, position your center as their answer to increasing costs. Show them you can save them money.
