Providers and vendors alike at HIMSS16 seem to have reached a better understanding on how important data security is to their everyday business.
Everywhere you go at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference, health data security is on the tip of everyone's tongues.
At least that's how Mac McMillan, co-founder and CEO of Austin-based consulting firm, CynergisTek and Chair of the HIMSS Privacy & Security Policy Task Force, sees it. "You can't walk on this floor without realizing security is becoming more and more important," McMillan said. "Everyone is talking about it. Everyone can be a victim today. Anyone who is connected to the internet can be affected."
McMillan shared his thoughts on data security awareness at HIMSS16, held in Las Vegas at the Venetian Sands Expo, with PhysicianPractice in a special live podcast interview. He talked about the encouraging signs he has seen at the conference, how small and mid-sized practices can keep protected health information secure without investing too much in software solutions, and much more.
