According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, there will likely be a shortage of 91,500 doctors by 2020. Combine this with the inherent bureaucracy with insurance and the squeeze to do more with fewer resources, and it’s hardly a surprise that many physicians are making the choice to turn to new models for care.
Concierge and direct care are two models that offer a solution to this problem. Adopting either allows patients to receive direct access to physicians by paying for services via a monthly or annual fee. Physicians, for their part, also benefit with this new care model.
