Which states have the highest taxes?

Tax burdens are a key factor in our annual Best States to Practice list.

To give more insight into which states have the highest tax burden, we present our rankings. These are the 11 states, and one city, with the highest tax burdens for anyone running a physicians practice.

This ranking was based on the Tax Foundation’s Facts & Figures How Does Your State Compare? 2023. In particular, Physicians Practice used Table 3 which ranked the states on five criteria: corporate tax, individual income tax, sales tax, unemployment insurance tax, and property tax.
