Providing for the health of patients is obviously job number one in every medical practice. But what some may find surprising is that without proper attention, the same environment can pose threats to patients and visitors. In minimizing dangers, a commitment to focusing on patient safety is a must.

"To promote a culture of safety within a physician’s practice, it's critical that the practice has comprehensive policies and procedures in place to allow for an orderly and uniform approach to patient safety," says Diane Doherty, senior vice president, healthcare risk engineering for insurance provider Chubb.
